If you are using ABBYY FineReader in a local network and the computer on which the license server is installed has been renamed or a technical problem occurs, the license server can be transferred to another machine.
1. Remove the license server from the old computer (if possible)
If you still have access to the original server, uninstall the license server there:
- Open Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features
- Find “ABBYY FineReader 14 License Server”
- Click “Uninstall”
If access is no longer possible, you can skip this step.
2. Install the license server on the new computer
Install the license server on the new machine (e.g., “NewServer”).
3. Adjust the server name in the configuration
On all machines with the installed license manager, the server name must be adjusted.
Edit the file:
%Program Files%\ABBYY\FineReader 14 License Server\LicenseManager.ini
or create this file anew and add the following entry:
[Licensing]
NetworkServerName=MyComputerNameReplace MyComputerName with the actual name of the new server.
Important:
The change will only take effect after the service “ABBYY FineReader 14 Licensing Service” has been restarted.
4. Reactivate licenses
Open the ABBYY FineReader License Manager and re-add or activate your licenses.
5. Create license file for workstations
In the administrative installation directory of ABBYY, create the file:
Licensing.ini
and also add:
[Licensing]
NetworkServerName=MyComputerName6. Reinstall on workstations
Then reinstall ABBYY FineReader on the client computers if necessary.
7. Distribute the license file
After setup, a file is automatically created:
<COMPUTER NAME>.ABBYY.LicServer
This is located at:
%programdata%\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\Licenses
This file must then be copied to all workstations.
Note:
The exact folder structure may vary slightly depending on the version of Windows.
