If you purchased your RDS CALs from us, we are happy to handle the activation for you. I will show you step by step what you need to do.
This guide explains the steps required for us to perform the activation for you.
Step 1: Preparing the License Server
In order to activate the RDS CALs, we first need the License Server ID of your server.
If your server is not yet prepared, you must first install the Remote Desktop Services via the Server Manager.
Procedure:
Open the Server Manager.
Install the Remote Desktop Services role if it is not already installed.
Then open the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
Right-click on the server name.
Select “Activate Server” to start the Activation Wizard.
Follow the instructions of the wizard and enter the required data.
The additional information on the second page is optional.
After successful activation, you can view the License Server ID in the Server Properties.
Ensure that the connection method is set to “Phone”.
Select your country and confirm with OK.
The preparation of the license server is now complete.
Step 2: Installing the License Key Package
After successfully processing your request, you will receive an email from our support team.
This email contains the key package ID that must be installed on your license server.
Procedure:
Open the Server Manager again.
Start the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
Right-click on the server.
Select “Install Licenses”.
Start the installation wizard.
Enter the key package ID from the email.
Follow the remaining steps of the wizard to complete the installation.
After completing the wizard, the RDS CALs are successfully installed and ready for use.
