What should I do if I have installed the Windows N version?

What is the Windows N edition?

The "N" editions of Windows 10 essentially contain the same features as the standard versions, but without media-related technologies.

This includes in particular:

  • no Windows Media Player
  • no pre-installed media apps (e.g., Music, Video, Voice Recorder)
  • no Skype

Switching to the normal Windows version

If you want to switch to Windows 10 Pro, a custom reinstall is required.

In this case:

  • All programs and applications will be removed
  • Personal data will be stored in the folder C:\Windows.old\Users<YourUsername>
  • A valid Windows 10 Pro license is required for activation

Note

The switch from an N version to the desired standard version is only reliably and completely possible through a reinstallation.
